September is Save the Koala Month

Gympie’s Koala Action Group is spreading the word to try and help our precious local koala populations.  A new brochure has been produced and widely circulated throughout our region, to help residents learn about koalas and the actions that can be undertaken to protect koalas and their habitat.

The Gympie Landcare group has also produced a fact sheet for landholders wanting to plant trees for koala habitat.

Koalas will also be in the spotlight at a Koala Forum being held in Koala country at Bauple, on Friday 7th October 2016.  The forum will bring together stakeholders and decision makers from across the Wide Bay Burnett Region to hear from keynote speakers and local experts on;

  • koala ecology and behaviour,
  • impacts from urban and rural land uses,
  • wildlife rescue in the region,
  • conservation programs on private land, and
  • conservation priorities and management actions.

Registration for the forum costs $10 and includes morning tea and lunch, and bus transport from either Gympie or Maryborough.  For more information or to register for the forum contact the Wide Bay Burnett Environment Council by email to manager@wbbec.org.au or call 0423 932 431.
