Big Jump on World Rivers Day starts Mary River Month with a splash

Mary River Month begins this Sunday!!

Don’t miss an opportunity to celebrate our Mary River

Spring is a busy time in the natural environment – birds are nesting, plants are flowering. Here in the Mary River catchment, it’s also an important time for a lot of our well known aquatic threatened species. Spring is when the Mary River cod, lungfish, Mary River Turtle and Giant barred frog all start to breed.

In 2016, #MaryRiverMonth will be kicked off with the “Big Jump, a tradition that started in Europe to celebrate rivers being clean enough for people to swim in.

Get your friends and family together and, at 2pm, jump in your Local Mary River Catchment Waterway.

Take a Picture and Share on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram with #MaryBigJump

Please – SAFETY first. Check the depth of the water, check for obstacles in the water. Stay safe and have fun!!

Go to our Facebook page for a list of Big Jump sites – or make one of your own (and let us know)!
