The endangered Mary River Cod video – Respected and Protected

The MRCCC’s new video, “The endangered Mary River Cod – Respected and Protected” will be screening at the Gerry Cook Hatchery Open Day, Sunday 24th June from 10 am to 2.30 pm in conjunction with the Noosa Festival of Water at the Noosa Botanic Gardens, Lake Macdonald Drive, Cooroy. Click on the link to access the video.

Thank you to Nigel Webster and the AFN Fishing Show for providing high quality footage for the video, and to all those volunteers who contribute to protection and conservation of the iconic Mary River cod.

A new Mary River Cod brochure is also now available, funded by Noosa Council.

The brochure and video aim to educate the wider community about how to protect the species and its habitat, to ensure that sustainable healthy populations of this mighty top order predator can be restored to it’s former range within the Mary River Catchment.

To visit the hatchery during the Noosa Festival of Water, catch the free boat from the boat ramp near the Amphitheatre at the Botanical Gardens or drive yourself to Collwood Road Lake Macdonald!

This will be the the public’s last opportunity to visit the Hatchery before Seqwater’s dam improvement project (DIP) commences in 2019.  The Hatchery will be closed during the DIP for a period of 3 -4 years, depending upon climate conditions. Seqwater representatives will be at the Noosa Festival of Water to respond to community concerns in relation to the project.
