Qld Premiere of Love Letter to the Unseen -Gympie Cinema 22 June 2026
Queensland premiere of Love Letter to the Unseen at the Gympie Cinema, Monday 22nd June
Discover a powerful night of cinema that bridges storytelling and urgent environmental action. This special event features a screening of the new documentary, Love Letter to the Unseen, followed by a live panel discussion with young Sunshine Coast conservationist, Spencer Hitchen. Spencer will share his insights on youth advocacy, the impact of visual storytelling, and what it takes to protect Australia’s most vulnerable ecosystems.
The film follows Spencer’s journey to the remote Macquarie Harbour in Tasmania—the final home of the endangered Maugean skate. While this ancient marine species faces imminent extinction, the documentary offers a message of urgent optimism. Linking the plight of Queensland’s vulnerable Glossy Black-Cockatoos to Tasmania’s marine life, Love Letter to the Unseen explores biodiversity loss through a youth lens, proving that while time is running out, there is still time to act.
“It was absolutely incredible to be asked by Emmy award-winning director Josh ‘Bones’ Murphy to be in the film that follows my conservation journey and my journey to learn about the Maugean Skate in Tasmania,” says Spencer. “This is a film about biodiversity loss from a youth perspective. It’s an incredibly hopeful, impactful, powerful, and inspirational film for all.”
Described by viewers as “the kind of HOPE inspiring change that we need in our world right now,” the documentary is already sparking a movement among younger generations.
“Sitting in the audience, watching this film with kids around me and seeing their faces light up and how inspired they are, seeing another kid like them taking action for conservation, is what it is all about,” Spencer added.
Produced by Land and Sea for All, the film was made in partnership with Environment Tasmania, Holdfast Collective, Rauch Foundation, and Reichstein Foundation. It features a diverse cast of voices, including cultural educator Lyndon O’Neil, artist Wendy Edwards, cartoonist First Dog on the Moon, and Andrew Wilkie MP.
